Gliding
with the RAF Section

Gliding with the CCF takes place at the weekends, normally
on a Sunday. Cadets are transported to RAF Henlow, north of Hitchin
on he A1, where 616 Volunteer Gliding School (VGS) is based.

Vigilant gliders are flown from here, which as you can see
from the photos below have engines! These are used for take off and
allow AEG, air experience gliding, to take place over a continuous period.

Once you have reached the age of 15 you will be entered for
a Gliding Induction Certificate (GIC) which is one of the pre-requisites
for a Gliding Scholarship where you can obtain a weeks continuous gliding
training with the aim to get your Gliding "Wings" and go effectively solo!!
