Dark Tower The drawing of the three Vol 2 The second book in Stephen King's fantasy tale 'The Dark Tower'. The gunslinger comes alone to the endless shore of the Western Sea to find amid the mindless menace of the flesh-eating lobstrosities the doorways between void and void through which he must draw The Three. ... IRON GIANT (VHS) Ted Hughes' classic is relocated to 1950's America in this impressive animation which manages to remain true to the spirit of the original. A young boy stumbles across a giant robot and befriends him but in an America paranoid of the Cuban missile crisis and communist scares his massive new friend does not appear so friendly to the authorities. An intelligent and engrossing family fable which respects its original text. Although the idea of updating Ted Hughes' elegiac childrens novella to nineteen-fifties America might horrify purists Brad Bird's magnificent animated adventure is a breathtaking demonstration of everything that's right about a good family film. Adapting Hughes' story really a prose poem would be a tricky task given that the fable-like plot is fairly simple when compared to the literary pyrotechnics of Hughes' writing. The basic premise young boy befriends an extraordinary friend and tries to hide it from misunderstanding adults has been done before - E.T. for example. However The Iron Giant while adding considerably to the storyline (without ever detracting from the original) remains true to the book's spirit throughout. Now based in Maine 1958 the Iron Man - sorry - Giant arrives in a time with which America's cold-war paranoia had reached a high-point. As a result a giant metal chap - with or without a heart - causes something of a stir with the authorities who are convinced that he's some kind of Soviet secret weapon. Only Hogarth Hughes (note the sirname) and his friend a beatnik artist see him for what he is: A gentle 50 foot tall steel-eating innocent completely bemused by his new surroundings. Blessed with a strong satirical thread and bucket loads of charm The Iron Giant has plenty of appeal to adults as well as children. The animation combining traditional two dimensional artwork with three-dimensional computer generated sequences (usually involving the giant himself) is seamless and beautiful mercifully keeping it's distance from the usual Disney schmaltz. Sadly despite the fact that this was easily one of the best films of last year it received scant publicity and was considered a box-office failure. In an industry that equates financial gain with quality this verged on tragic. Quite simply The Iron Giant is a stunning piece of cinema and deserves a place in anyone's video collection. Directed by Brad Bird Written by Tim McCanlies Starring: (Voice cast) Jenifer Aniston Harry Conick Jr. Vin Diesel Eli Marienthal Christopher MacDonald John Mahoney M. Emmet Walsh Mary Kay Bergman Running Time: 86 min. approx. ... Destination Second solo album from the Irish singer is a strong pop-rock affair that sees him move further and further away from his Boyzone days. Features the singles 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' (written by Garth Brooks) and 'Lovin' Each Day'. ... NUTTY PROFESSOR 2-THE KLUMPS - (DVD) Sequel to Eddie Murphy's hit comedy. Here Buddy Love the slimline alter ego of the plump prof bursts into the world and wreaks customary havoc on the Klump family. Murphy plays eight (eight!) characters. Janet Jackson plays just one. Enjoyable enough spin-off from Eddie Murphy's special effects comedy remake of Jerry Lewis's original. This time round the amiable Professor Sherman Klump decides to rid himself of his alter ego Buddy Love once and for all by cutting loose all his DNA (we're talking Hollywood science here of course). Buddy then crops up as his own man and decides he'll make things a lot better if he sells off Sherman's revolutionary youth serum as his own. However the formula is hidden in the Klump family household and - quite frankly the skinny guy doesn't stand a chance. The comedy is fairly undemanding stuff. Bodily functions get plenty of screentime as do more of those fun-with-science things which Hollywood movies enjoy (cue giant hamsters on the rampage.) However the part of Nutty Professor II which really impresses is the make up and camera tricks which transform Murphy into an entire family - each with their own personality. Rick Baker's make-up is extraordinary and Murphy himself is superb as all eight of the (rather broad - in every sense) characters. DVD Version Widescreen: 1.85:1 Anamorphic Stereo: Dolby Digital 5.1 (English German) Subtitles: English German Bulgarian Czech Danish Finnish Greek Hebrew Hungarian Norwegian Polish Swedish Turkish Special Features Out-takes (3 mins) Theatrical Trailer Janet Jackson Music Video Spolight On Location (24 mins) Deleted Scene Conversation with Director and Producer Extended Scene (10 mins) Make Up Application Storyboards and Feature Comparison (9 mins) ... Father Of The Bride - (DVD) A remake of the 1950's Spencer Tracy / Elizabeth Taylor classic in which an ordinary guy has to take on the planning expense and complications of his daughter's wedding. Martin Short appears in the hilarious role of the wedding coordinatoe while Steve Martin has one of his best roles as the man who realizes his little girl is all grown up...... ...

WHSmith is the UK's number one family retailer selling a range of products that extends across education, entertainment and information. Each year WHSmith High Street stores sell enough pens to circle the earth; enough books to fill a library shelf from London to Edinburgh; and enough paper to write a letter to everyone in the world. WH Smith also sell 122 million magazines and newspapers each year - enough to make a pile 69 times taller than Mount Everest.
The first High Street store was a small news vendor opened in 1792 in Little Grosvenor Street, London, by Henry Walton Smith and his wife Anna. Today, WHSmith has 545 High Street stores, covering over 3 million square feet of selling space and employing 17,000 staff. Clubcard, the Company's loyalty scheme, has more than 5 million members.
Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery form the core of the High Street business. WHSmith sell more books than any other retailer in England, Scotland and Wales. For example, one in three copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were bought from WHSmith in the first weekend of release. WHSmith promote new authors with their Fresh Talent showcase and also have the Thumping Good Read Award that is voted for by members of Clubcard.
WHSmith's major stores stock more than 45,000 product lines, whereas an average food supermarket carries around 10,000 lines.
WHSmith currently holds a strong market share in each of the core categories in which it trades - books, stationery, news, magazines and entertainment. WH Smith's strategy is to exploit the strength, power and potential of the WHSmith brand to provide the very best service and value for money for their customers, shareholders and wider community.
