Joyce's Diary - Feb 2005
|
I had about twenty-five different Lithops seeds from the Mesemb Study Group last week. I sowed them in individual 2” square pots, sealed them into plastic bags and placed them on a bedroom windowsill. They seem to have the ideal conditions there – warm in the daytime and cooler at night. Within a week tiny plants were appearing within more than half the pots. Most of the seeds should have germinated within the next week.
The BCSS Journal, with its seed list, should be out within the next few days and I will be able to order more seeds. I think I get more satisfaction from growing plants from seeds or cuttings, than I do from any other aspect of our hobby. I know there is satisfaction in growing and flowering beautiful mature plants but it does not compare with the fascination of scattering seed, some as fine as dust, and seeing it germinate and grow. The only drawback is that if I am successful with my seedlings I finish up with hundreds of plants that I need to find homes for.
