Success of the Fellowship

On a purely personal level the Fellowship was entirely successful. I found it a stimulating, rewarding and refreshing experience which has made a huge contribution to my own professional development. The Fellowship provided uninterrupted quality time to study the area of education which has been my greatest passion for the major part of my career. Not only did I learn a great deal which was new to me but I was also able to confirm a number of long-held assumptions – equally, some of my assumptions were quietly laid to rest!

I hope that in the coming months the children and staff of Duns Primary School will also benefit from my experience. First and foremost I will use the knowledge I have gained to make improvements to the ways we use computers at Duns PS. Our immediate future holds many changes where ICT is concerned:

  • Revised national guidance for ICT has recently been published.

  • The school has just installed a network of 24 PCs for curriculum use. A further 24 PCs will added in the near future.

  • We have recently received a network of 5 administrative PCs for administration and management.

  • We have begun an intensive programme of staff training.

My hope is that the Fellowship has provided some significant insights into the most effective ways to implement these changes.

The success of the Fellowship can also be judged on its impact on ICT education outwith my own school. Of course that will depend, to a great extent, on the reaction to this report by its recipients.
