Meteoric rise

With Paul Fenech & co playing a whole host of gigs recently it was hard to miss them, even considering the fact that the tour dates seemed to be something of a moveable feast! We made our way across to Sheffield (same night as the Carlton Blues Christmas Bash - sorry people) to see the lads in action at the Casbah Club. Bud had even managed to swing himself a guest list pass!

The Club itself was one of the smaller venues I've seen bands play at, but this only seemed to improve the gig; intimate isn't a word I'd use in relation to the Meteors, but you know where I'm coming from! There seemed to be some kind of curfew type thing going on as Mr P. Paul mentioned "just playing as many songs as they could..." and they certainly did, it was like a Meteors medley with the end of each song going straight into the next one. It didn't take long before the Wreckin Crew were up and at 'em - if I remember correctly it was Blue Sunshine which got them going, after which there was no relent! By all accounts (Kitch & Tubbs) the previous night's Nottingham gig had even boasted none other than ex-corrie love rat Peter Barlow giving it large in the mosh pit!!!

As well as plenty of classic tracks such as Wreckin' Crew, Maniac Rockers from Hell, Hills Have Eyes and I'm Not Mad/Get Off My Cloud there were also plenty of new tracks including the superb I Hate People. The crowd were invited to sing along to the last track of the set, namely Slow Down You Grave Robbing Bastard, and continued in good voice to bring the lads back out for an encore of Mutant Rock!

It would have been better had the band been able to play for longer, but this obviously wasn't their fault, and I'm not sure they would have got through many more songs had they been onstage for any greater length of time, but it did seem to be over too soon - the mark of any decent gig! Hopefully it won't be too long before they are back again.

200% Psychobilly without question!
