THE SECOND WARS

So the first war was over, and though we didn't do too badly, we thought we could improve on our performance in series two, if we got through the auditions.During the first war, Dreadnaut sustained some damage but not enough to mean that we would need to make a new body. There were a few other things that needed to be modified though.
Even though we had thought the forks looked pretty mean, they had in fact proved woefully inadequate and so a new pair were welded up out of three millimetre steel.

The new look beastie!

All of our starter motors were shot in the first war and so we invested in three second hand wheelchair motors at about £50 each. The borrowed 30ah aircraft battery had to go back to work and so we also bought a couple of 15ah wheelchair gel batteries at £20 apiece. The motors came with their own wheels attached and so fortunately bolted straight on to the frame. Even though we hadn't had chance to use the forks in anger in the first war, we still thought they were a good idea and decided to power them with a 16v battery drill which cost us about £35. The bodywork was then repaired and strengthened ( not half enough as it turned out!) and cut away to fit the new size forks. Finally we gave it a new paint job and went for a shiny new look instead of the weathered look we had first time. Filming was to be in August this year and inevitably the holidays played havoc with getting the robot finished, but we eventually got there with loads of time to practise,( at least a couple of hours!)
WE WERE READY!

Dread before the attention of Killalot!

The Wars!

The format for the second wars was pretty much the same as in the first series. There would be two qualifying rounds followed by the semi-final , then the final, which would put you through to the series finals.

The Gauntlet

We did quite well in this round, doing a quick dummy to get past Sgt Bash and completing it in the quickest time for our round, without any damage.

The Joust

We didn't perform brilliantly in the joust, but we weren't as diabolical as some and so we got through ok.

THE WINNER

The winner this year was

Panic Attack.
