This is a photo of my Grandfather (Mr. Arthur Thompson) on the left, and his brother Mr. James 'Jimmy' Thompson - taken sometime around 1958 possibly on a Bank Holiday when Uncle Jimmy was home on leave. It was taken at my grandparent's home in Lingholme Road. Their family home was in Exeter Street, Newtown.

And this is one of my grandfather with some of his friends from the Royal Naval Association (St.Helens Branch) around 1972/73. Grandad is the one seated in the centre. The only name I can give is Mr. Norman Douthwaite of Kitchener Street, seated just in front of my grandad.

Hello Jeff - thought you may like this old school photo that I've been sent by one of my classmates for the Newtown Website.

It was taken at Rivington Road Juniors while I was in 4th year in 1961/62.

The class teacher was Mr Owen, who left after that year to go to a school in Parr (near Derbyshire Hill Estate).  Mr Owen's wife taught the 2nd yr Infants around the same time.

At the time the photo was taken, I lived in Lingholme Road (facing the bowling greens).

If anybody sees the photo and recognises themselves, I'd love to hear from them.  I'm open to being corrected on some of the names and would really like to be able to 'fill in the blanks'     (Olga) Lilian Caddock - nee Thompson.

Annie (b 1861) and Isabelle Thompson (b 1865) were 2 of James Arthur's sisters.  They both emigrated to USA around 1890, married out there and raised families - neither of them ever returned to England, but our families are still in contact with each other.

Ann Thompson - nee Stobbs (b 1841 Carlisle - d 1893 Raglan Street).  Daughter of Stephenson Stobbs who was a Primitive Methodist Minister in St.Helens (1858-1860).  She and James Turner Thompson were married in 1860 at St.Mary's, Prescot.

James Turner Thompson (b1839 India - d 1916 St.Helens) was my great-great-grandfather and father of James Arthur, Annie and Isabelle.  He was a bricklayer and lived mostly around Brook Street/Wilson Street/Cross Street/Raglan Street before moving into 77 Grafton Street with James and Martha.

James Arthur Thompson (b 1875-d 1841) and Martha Thompson - nee Case (b 1877- d 1956) were my great-grandparents (parents of Arthur and Jimmy Thompson). He worked as a Sheet Glass Blower. In 1911 they were living at 77 Grafton Street, Newtown and eventually moved to 45 Exeter Street.
